I had the pleasure of working alongside Peter Pickard on a number of design projects. He also designed the highly acclaimed Midland Bank calendar, which won several design awards. A true gentleman.

Peter Pickard is my eldest brother. For many years he designed the Midland Bank stationary and retired in 1991. Unfortunately he is now in a care home. He is in his 90th year

I was astounded in my studies to discover that the Ancient symbol of the Griffin was a “Type & Shadow” of the “Office of the Angel!” In all Societies the wicked seem to prosper, and sooner or later the Criminal & Brutal Element grasps the reins of power corrupting it from “Just Rule” to “Oppression in Favour of a Few!” The Safe Foundations are slowly but surely removed, and the Weak and the Innocent find themselves without “Protection, Justice and Safety!” Then we see the Griffin, “Stirring from its Bed of Equity and Rising Hungry for a Quarrel;” or shall we say, “We see him, but we don’t see his face, for he wears a mask! Zorro, Bat Man and Heroes Immemorial have hidden their identity from the tyrannical and the vile, while delivering the frail from the “Crushing Blow of the Power of Society gone Mad!” Sadly, the universally oppressed, have been women, and they Still Are! Maybe not always openly; but marginally, degradingly, and secretly! Have I got some stories to tell!

Did anyone else see the Griffin making a reappearance at the polls this week? He's put on a bit of weight and lost some colour in his cheeks but those cold black eyes are unmistakable: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8088381.stm

My first job on graduating from college was working for Peter Pickard. He demanded very high standards and the work was very precise. I spent a couple of years at Brewster Gardens before moving on to work for Banks & Miles.

I am friends with the Griffin and I can tell you now that all is not lost. The Griffin has been in hiding for the last ten years and has been carefully and meticulously planning his revenge on HSBC. The day of the Griffin will soon return; the attack will be swift and without warning and the Griffin will reclaim what is rightfully his. One Love, One Griffin.

Gone but not forgotten. I thought griffins were real. I still do in my heart of hearts. I know the midland griffin is still looking down over me rip

It was a sad day for us all, but the Griffin survives in many different ways. Adios.

I must also ask myself "How did I find this site - and why does it exist?". Although I was in Midland Bank for years, started as a 'Griffin Saver' and also ran my School Bank!

God, it realy does change a company doesn't it. I beleive when I changed banks to Midland this emblem was still in use. Nowadays as HSBC (Hopless Sweaty Bloody Communists), they're alright, but not as good as the Midland days. At least at our branch there is the Griffin still on the wondows ;).

Contracted and finaly worked for Midland Bank from 1986 in Birmingham (Forward Trust - another brand name gone) to 2004 when HSBC threw me on the scrap heap (due to Rheumatoid Arthritis). Midland was fun in IT, HSBC and their cloned executives were dire and fully deserve to be owners of Household because they couldn't get a hold in USA on their own bland image.

In 1997, the Midland Griffin was ruthlessly slain - and replaced by the incredibly bland HSBC hexagon. Shame on you...

Recently, HSBC announced a record profit of almost £ 7-BILLION!!! surely it's time to invest in a decent logo? (or revive the Griffin?)

What’s happened to the notion of friendly and caring banks on the High-Street?? Recently, the famous Abbey National 'umbrella couple' joined the Griffin in the logo graveyard.

My deepest condolences... I can't even imagine such a loss. Losing a design classic in such a senseless and avoidable way must be horribly agonising. Please let me know if there are any memorial funds to which I could contribute.
