I think this holds up at this size just fine, and it's beautiful and distinctive. If you need to go smaller you could just use the "R". The replacement has nothing like this kind of clarity.

This logo has "Gay Disco Club" written all over it.

Oh, Reuters Ticker-Tape, why have you forsaken me? You provided comfort and the reassurance of truth wherever you appeared. You will be remembered forever as a bastion of freedom of information. Let us pray that you will one day rise again and present the world's news with your tick, tick, tick.

Seems to be holding up online just fine to me (if you look to your right now)... and I'm pretty sure you colud get it even smaller if it came to that.

Guys, I hate to tell you this, but that logo would be extremely difficult to deal with now in an online space. Try taking it down to a 25-30px high GIF or using it properly in a variety of online placements. It is difficult to read and breaks apart easily. It does not posses the solidity of the IBM logo. The Landor logo is not ideal, but definitely holds up better under the usual abuse doled out an online space.

Absolutely one of the all-time best designs. So sophisticated and strong. I suspect that the suits that axed it had no idea of the history this perfect little mark expresses. Sad.

In the latest issue of the design journal 'iM', Alan Fletcher reflects that change is not a bad thing if it improves something. Sadly, this is not the case with his famed Reuters' logo. According to Fletcher, the rebrand was imposed by a committee of non-designers, interested only in strategy rather than a potent graphic-identifier... I guess this is the theme of 'Logo RIP'.

Alan Fletcher is a design genius. This timeless logotype should never have been allowed to die at the hands of Landor...

The new Reuters logotype is an insult to the design community and another example of a ridiculous rebranding exercise ... Somehow, Reuters have disregarded the notion of the message being more important than the messager!

*cries* - Just when it was coming into hip-fashion again, they axed their brilliant logo. *boohoo*

Born in 1968 (wow!). Still very contemporary and distinctive looking. A premature death? What a shame! What a waste! This is 'Bad news' for the design world - and Reuters never reported it, did they?

Good grief. What were Reuters thinking? What a waste.

An Alan Fletcher masterpiece: witty, elegant and instantly memorable. Reuters – please unroll, once more, the 'ticker-tape' logo!

Why the hell did Reuters ditch this elegant logo? I guess I'll have to buy the book :)

I found this interesting anecdote from David Ogilvy that probably best sums up the situation: “One of my clients was persuaded that his company’s symbol was too old-fashioned and paid a fancy firm $75,000 to design a new one. At the unveiling I whispered to one of the Vice-Presidents, “A tyro in our art department could have designed a better symbol for $75.” “No doubt,” he replied, “but we would have argued it to death.
