I went to the South Bank in July 1951, with a school party from Windsor, we were not allowed any drinks to be taken with us, so it was a very thirsty day out!
I hope to have a T shirt soon with that great logo on it...much to the wonder of all who see it!

Had many attempts to copy the symbol as a schoolboy in 1951. Visited the South Bank for the Exhibition, can remember
John Cobbs' car in the shadow of the Dome, and standing under the Skylon!
I was age 11!

This Britannia emblem was Abram Game's crowning moment. He was part of a generation of British graphic designers who injected new life into their profession. These designers succeeded in developing a distinctively English visual identity, often displaying gentle humor and an illustrative, decorative style that was popular in the austere postwar years.

I grew up in post-war Britain and this little mark captured the optimism and whimsy that was the spirit of 1950s Britain.

If you think about the design coming out of Holland, Germany and Swizerland in the 1950's - this really was very Victorian, very old-fashioned! So no loss, no classic.
