Good riddance. It's a shame they can't send all of BT down the same shameful path to oblivion. |They are a bloody disgrace to the business world.

Watch the music video to 'I want to break free' by Queen. Towards the end and you will see where the idea for the BT piper came from! ;-)

Yeah, I know I posted before, but looking at previous messages it comes to show the '80's T-in a circle emblem was by far the most popular one. I still don't know why the camp, poncey Piper was used, I mean it's sooo Village People! Not many liked it and was a flop that lasted longer thn one would expect. I still wish they'd bring back the 'T' like many others think.
Hmmm hey, since the Phoneboxes havn't got the new logo yet, why don't they just put the 'T' emblem on the Phoneboxes again :) (A bit of '80's nostalgia!)
Looking at the Piper does seem scary, here's somethings to calm your nerves

It would be funny if the Piper had a handbag istead it'd be more fitting!

The piper made BT very recognisable in its twelve years but it was always going to be a 20th century logo, so that once the new Millennium dawned, once Vodafone et cetera became prosperous and landlines were quickly rendered obsolete, it became clear that perhaps BT should replace the piper with another logo. Yet BT chose to join in the mobile phone revolution by taking control of Cellnet and Esat Digifone in Ireland (through its purchase of Esat in 2000), and continue with the piper. (Did anyone know that some other company beginning with S also used the piper around this time? I've forgotten its name but it had an advert featuring one of the creators of The Full Monty.) But in 2002, O2 took over Cellnet and Esat Digifone, leaving BT with little more significant than its broadband service. Now it was time for the piper to go, and the "connected world" to come in, although the piper remained in Ireland with what had become Esat BT, until finally it disappeared in 2005 when it turned into BT Ireland. I think the "connected world" is a very good logo, very colourful and very 21st century, but perhaps BT are taking a bit of a risk by retaining the typeface for "BT" that they used with the piper.

I'm glad to see the back of the "Prancing Piper" (the only good thing to come out of 2003), I first saw this monstrocity in about 1992-3 when I was only 7-8, and didn't like it, you see when I was child yellow was one of my favourite colours, and it was dreadful to see the vehicles in that insipid grey, and the phoeboxes in that tasteless pink/red colour. I even dispise the "piper" as it has no meaning. The new logo isn't too bad, and whenever they change the logo on the phoneboxes, we can take a sigh of relief, never to see the big mistake this emblem was! I still prefer the "T" emblem in a circle, it was universal on phonexes (T for telephone), and yellow showed up well, vehicles stood out, it gave the company more of a professional image. They should have broght the "T" logo back, let's face it people are going retro as the '80's in some cases have made a comback!
Good ridance "Prancing Piper", you may have lived a long life, but nobody really liked you, (not even staff warmed up to this logo when it was first launched apparently), besides you gave BT a fruity image if you ask me. Good bye and never come back!
BT, bring bck the '80's "T" logo, we need something brash and 'in your face' again.

I hated this logo as soon as I first saw it, on a phone box in Canterbury in 1991. I thought it was crushingly pretentious and I knew straight away that it was doomed to become instantly dated as it belonged to the early nineties "wispy-floaty' period - look at any other logo designed at the same time and you will see what I mean :-) In fact it's amazing that it lasted as long as it did.
The T-in-a-circle logo that it replaced was far superior, and had they stuck with that it would look just as contemporary now as it did in the 80s, if not more so. As for the current globe - well, BT could not have chosen a more clichéd, bland theme for a telecommunications company. Yawn.

Believe me I hate BT! We have had such a poor service from BT. We have a number of lines. The bills never seem to add up, services that we don't subscribe to, lines cut off when we have owed nothing, over charging to added the list goes on and on and on!
I even had a letter warning of legal action for a phone number that I don't even have! Can you believe that?
With BT watch your bills for feature creeping, tarif migration and get some BT contacts in your data base. If I didn't have to be with BT then I would move with out thought even if I paid a higher price for a decent service. I have looked at Colt but they are not in my area. Any suggestions?
BT have come back to me and offered to scrub last bill Firstly. I would not accept as this was made up of £90 of reconection charges whilst BT infact owed us money due to taking between 2-5 months to migrate us to a CPS service and us over paying them.
They then came back with an offer that was reluctantly accepted so we are in credit with them now.
Realy if I ran my business in the same manner then I would be bust.
I don't wont to sound like a grumpy old man, but come on BT get your act together, make me smile again, we are you cash cows milk us don't butcher us.

Piper-man is succeeded by a strange collection of coloured discs, which is designed to symbolise "the connected world". A BT spokesman said the new logo "reflects a broader world of communications" and was "in tune with the multi-media age". An age in which people no longer use trumpets to communicate.

BT's business and its culture is changing so it is important that we have a brand identity that represents the multi-faceted nature of our business. The new logo does the job. It represents BT as being in-tune with the multimedia age as well as communicating the company's international reach.
We are not changing image for the sake of change. It is more fundamental than that.

I agree... always hated it, every time I traveled to the UK, I hated it... it's so f****** bland.
Besides, this is one of the first logos that killed a good/decent one... it's got what it deserved.

The piper has done an excellent job for BT for the last twelve years and has become one of the country's most recognisable marks. While it reflects many of BT's strengths as a company, it has become associated with some outdated perceptions of BT as simply a fixed-line telephone company. The new identity reflects a broader world of communications, and in research, customers and employees have reacted to it very positively. It better reflects recent changes in BT, and the further changes we are seeking to make in the near future.
Angus Porter, Managing director of BT Retail's consumer division

These narrative logos are more vulnerable to interpretative aggression than the old abstract/geometric solutions. They tend to illustrate an 'ideal brand position' that often says more about the board members' dreams than the honest realities of the company's products.
