My father was with Imperial Airways/BOAC/BA 1936-1976 so I grew up with the SPEEDBIRD. Yes, always classic and timeless and should be prominately dislayed on all that is British Airways. Have it hanging in my home made in stained glass.

Hard to believe that this was created in the thirties! Unlike, most logos created in that decade, this hasn't dated a bit. Rest in peace.

To add to what my brother has submitted, 'Speedbird' evokes strong pride & emotion as it was the 'original' symbol of the Golden Age of Travel, a simple effective Globally recognised symbol that modern PR & Design studios would pay £millions to launch.THE ONE good thing is that Concorde flights added Concorde to notify Air Traffic Control of the aircraft's unique abilities and restrictions. The Flight numbers of the BA Concorde flights were 001–004 BA Concordes therefore used call signs Speedbird Concorde 1 through to Speedbird Concorde 4. With the retirement of Concorde those flight numbers are now unused. HOWEVER SPEEDBIRD CONTINUES to be used by British Airways (BA) as a call sign to the present day so She Stil 'Flies' on in Spirit !!

The ultimate logo. Designed by hand and pen, but with straight graphics, it looks both yesterday and today at one and the same time. My late dad, Abrar Siddiqi, came to Britain from Karachi in 1964 as a BOAC aircraft engineer (from the airline PIA) working in the original Hatton Cross office at Heathrow (now a listed building). So this logo is also a part of our family history.

While I have come late for this particular eulogy, i have say what (or rather who) were they thinking? The Speedbird is the timeless embodiment of style, class and experience. BA looks more like a start-up airline these days...their aircraft look like they come from Tesco's they don't have the same appeal as they used to, Even QANTAS kept the flying Kangaroo..they know a good thing when they're onto it...pity BA are too try hard

A great logo, it's one of my favourites. I just had to do a uni project recently on BA splitting up into two separate companies, one for European travel, the other for International. So for the redesign and to show that they were still united I decided to use an updated version of the Speedbird. None of that Speedwing or Speedmarque poo. This is a classic and should be reinstated back into use.

British Airways (and its predecessor BOAC) was always the pioneer, the innovator of the world travel industry. The present BA 'Speedmarque' does not evoke any of this proud heritage. Bring back the Speedbird - the 'world's favourite logo'.

This logo is a timeless masterpiece. With minimal effort it is graceful, dynamic, memorable and ... stylistically durable (70 yrs +). Wow, such a shame BA now wear that flimsy 'ribbon' marque.

Dust this one off and put it back into play. You'll never get more elemental than this. Classic and timeless.

I joined BOAC in 1960 and saw it through several logo and name changes - BOAC, BOAC/Cunard, British Airways – but in my opinion nothing represented the style of the airline and elicited the loyalty of its employees as much as the beloved “Speedbird.”

This is the sort of design that makes me love stuff that came out of the 30s. I'll add myself to the line of people who think it should be reinstated.

Argentinian Airlines (www.aerolineas.com.ar) has a very similar logo. Aerolineas Argentinas says its logo represents a condor.

Along with the romance of BOAC, I also miss the spirit of British Caledonian, "I wish they all could be Caledonian girls", ... miss the uniforms. Although, Sir Freddie Laker's Skytrain and Dan Air are not missed.

it was before my time but seems of my time. I like it! I hope the Speedbird flew to heaven. R.I.P.

This is a fantastic mark! Why abandon a great heritage? It is much better than that ugly 'speedmarque' that BA currently uses.

The Speedbird should be revived! It is a mark which although created in an age of 100mph aircraft is still remarkably modern in concept... so much better than BA's present 'Speedmarque'.
