The Tarmac seven t`s was the most creative and powerful symbol of all the construction company's into the early ninety's and to all who worked for this company at this time was, a family symbol and was brought down by a bunch of inexperienced young idiots brought in from outside company's who just have to change things to justify their newly acquired degrees and have not a clue and did not understand ethos of this company and brought it just about to its knees, and this they call progress, the country has now gone the same financial way as the old Tarmac Construction at the hands of these idiots, still i was there for for twenty two years with the seven t`s and was the best job i ever had.

The seven T's were supposed to represent the seven parts of the business. When Neville Sims came on board he had to carve the company up in order to deal with the overexpansion and consequent economic issues that ensued in the early 90s. The logo wasn't sacraficed because it wasn't a great design but that the the business it stood for no longer existed...

The current logo is crap at least this logo made you think of what it was... is it tire tracks? bricks? 7 T's? a great use of imagination and optical illusion here, the current one is terrible "stupid looking T with bad oval" go look at their website to see what I mean. http://www.tarmac.co.uk/

The seven T's symbol of Tarmac was voted one of the world's top trademarks in 1974! Considering its ubiquity, I hadn't realised it's death until reading this fabulous book. R.I.P.

I think it looks like tiretracks, hence the tarmac connection makes perfect sense to me. Oh and by the way, this Rap guy .. yikes what a looser!

Looks like more like 'tiles' (or bricks) to me! I cannot see a hot smooth tarmac surface here.

Another pioneering piece of work from 'Design Research Unit'... How long will it be before another of their design masterpieces - the BR 'double-arrow' will join the logo graveyard?? (or has it already?)

For me, this symbol was synonymous with roadworks, particularly during the motorway expansion projects of the '70s... in that respect I won't miss it.
