why did this design classic die? perhaps it was due to the fact that during the 1970’s Oil Companies were privatised and OPEC was established (the oil producing nations took more control of their product)...? anyhow, such a shame... r.i.p.

This is a beautiful logo - perfect!! Although, there is no way such a logo could exist today. With oil companies so conscious about projecting an environment-friendly image such a representation, or indeed the name, would never be conceived.

just about the most honest and 'to the point' logo I've ever seen, a case of 'it does what it says on the label' this is the sort of logo the greenpeace guy meant who commented on the BP logo (and seemed very angry; the power of design)...i think this is fantastic, wish I'd made it...didn't the stone twins do a 'hommage' to this one recently?
